Why Did I Write This Book?

Over the years, it became increasingly obvious to me that there were many patients who were not finding the care they needed, nor the results they wanted from conventional care. At the time, I was in the middle of my formal graduate education and learning how my profession fit into the health care system. As I began practice in 2003, my focus was on musculoskeletal conditions. My post-graduate education helped me to effectively diagnose and communicate to my patients how their musculoskeletal problems were related directly to their lifestyle and dietary habits. Within a few years, I realized that the majority of health conditions, not just musculoskeletal, but most chronic problems…like thyroid problems, diabetes, migraines, autoimmune disorders, infertility, ADD/ADHD & Autism Spectrum Disorders, and many more were unequivocally related to their dietary and lifestyle choices.

The big problem was that we (this includes myself up to my post-graduate studies) have been misled to think that chronic poor health comes with age, bad luck, or bad genes. The biggest problem, I found, was that we were taught that we can simply medicate or supplement our way out of poor health, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. Even in my practice, I was being blamed by patients for their inability to recover from their health problems. This did not sit well with me. Especially, when I realized that they were right! I did not serve them at my highest level because, like most doctors, I was taught to look at the body by breaking it down into different systems and no one really taught me to put it back together again in a practical way. I began to educate myself on the interconnections of different systems in the body and how they function when they are HEALTHY. This allowed me to better evaluate patients who were sick, but not sick enough or in the right way to have symptomatic relief from only taking medication or having surgery. I realized that there were millions of people suffering because they had fallen through the cracks in the system that taught them to blame things beyond their control for their health problems.

In 2008, I opened my new office in Upland, CA and began to focus on helping people connect their symptoms with the underlying issues that developed because of how they had been managing their health. My clinical experience and education in the functional treatment of the body lead me to discover that most of the symptoms that people suffer from can be remedied by making the right dietary and lifestyle changes. I also noticed that many people were confused by conflicting stories about what is healthy from their doctors, advertisements, popular culture, and their education. My goal in writing the Path To Health was simple: to provide people with a concise book that they can reference to help them understand how to care for their body so that they can take their health back into their own hands!

In Good Health,

Dr. Richard Robles
